While New York finally got a proper winter, St Petersburg embraced its proper crisp white winter for a while already. Coming home during this season makes you appreciate wintertime. And coming home as an adult makes you notice few things you overlooked as a kid...
Here are just few "details" of my trip.
View from a Window
Typical suburban view.
Old Frames on White
Rose by the Window
A New Year Celebration Table
Classic way to greet upcoming year is to celebrate at home. Dining table unfolded (due to small size of apartments) in sitting room and a television on to watch fireworks and president speech.
Pickled Mushrooms & Onions
Russians Love Fish Stuff
Down The Metro
Grajdanskii Prospect Metro Station
St Petersburg and Moscow have the most beautiful stations ( can I say? ) in the world. Even some of the metro trains are still of the soviet era. If you lucky, you will catch a yellow car, which can date from 1950s.
Shadows on Tile
Entering Peterskie Dvoriki
Courtyards entrances in the center of the city
Last of the Pishechnaya
Since the 50s, this place served the best pishki in St Petersburg. Generations of Peterburzhtsy enjoyed this fast food of delicious donuts and remade sweet coffee. This place retains its original look and taste since it was build. A must if you in St Petersburg.
Bolshaya Konyushennaya ul., 25, Sankt-Peterburg, Russia, 191186
You can't have just one.
New Playground Old City
Shadows of Northern Sunset
Slow creeping in sunset. Picture was taken around 3pm.
In Front of Frozen Neva River
Go ahead, you can walk across it. It used to be done, but I dont know if its legal nowadays...
Red on Grey
Back to Suburbs
Office Building at Night
You will see most of the brutalist style architecture in suburbs of the city. The only updates I saw on this office building, which I grew up near, are random air conditioner units.
Yello Submarine In Front of School
Even with modernization and imports, you will see a lot of old Russian state style packaging. Maybe I should collect those, you never know how long those will last...
Russian Cat Schuma
You can't have a proper warm up after a long walk in -22 Celsius without apple or fish pirojki and sweet black tea.
